Crayons and markers on cotton paper, cardboard

This colour diary was created during the autumn of 2017. Walking around in the urban landscapes of Reykjavik and Akureyri, I painted colour combinations in objects and architecture that I instinctively found appealing or intriguing.

Located in the North Atlantic, Iceland has a landscape characterized by grass and lava fields, mountains and glaciers. The semi-arctic climate envelops the island in moist air and shades of blue and grey, and the urban colour scheme is dominated by cold and muted tones interspersed with outbursts of bright and saturated colours. To me, the most attractive element of the colour scheme was this sense of unpredictability, similar to a sudden explosion of energy from the volcanic underground.
