Minimalist lamp shade + jewelry

Collaboration with Siyazama Project and Simunye Craft Collective in South Africa for Editions in Craft

February 2014

Glass beads, metal wire, cotton thread

In November 2013, I was invited by Editions in Craft to do a 10-day workshop with a group of women from KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa, who work with traditional beadwork. The aim of the project was to create designs suitable for export, so the women can live from their craft.

The workshop has resulted in two products: Colour Cup and Ribbon jewelry. Made of glass beads, Colour Cup has the ability to let light through and colour it, while covering the light bulb as a second skin.

For more informations, go to the website of Editions in Craft.

Exhibited in the curated 'Africa is Now' exhibition at the Design Indaba in Cape Town, February 2014.

Colour Cup was included in Crafts Collection 18 curated by Pil Bredahl for the Danish Arts Foundation, presented at Maison & Objet, September 5-9, 2014.

Sold in selected Muji stores.
